Subsea7 S.A. announced the award of a “substantial” contract by Chevron Australia for subsea works on the Gorgon Stage 3 (GS3) project, located offshore Australia. The company defines such contracts as being valued between $150mn and $300mn. The Gorgon field is one of the largest liquefied natural gas projects in Australia, and this new expansion phase aims to extend its production capacity.
Subsea7’s scope of work includes project management, engineering, procurement, fabrication, transportation, installation and pre-commissioning of subsea equipment. The installations will be carried out at a water depth of 1,350 metres, in an area operated by Chevron Australia.
International deployment and technical coordination
Initial engineering and project management activities will begin immediately, coordinated from Subsea7’s office in Perth, Australia. Local teams will be supported by technical centres located in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, and Paris, France. This international setup reflects the group’s integrated approach to managing large-scale projects.
Offshore operations are scheduled to start in 2028. No additional details have been disclosed regarding the timeline of the various project phases. Subsea7 will deploy its logistical and technical resources to ensure infrastructure delivery in line with client requirements and safety standards.
A strategic project for Chevron Australia
The Gorgon project, located off the northwest coast of Australia, is primarily operated for liquefied natural gas exports. This new phase will connect additional wells to the existing system, reinforcing long-term supply continuity.
“This project marks an important milestone and reinforces our long-term strategic engagement with Chevron,” said David Bertin, Senior Vice President for Subsea7 Global Projects Centre East. He noted the company will work closely with Chevron to ensure technical reliability and operational safety.
