Canadian company Stardust Solar Energy Inc. has awarded its first African franchise to Megatricity Energy Inc., marking a key step in its international development strategy. The agreement, effective since September 29, will allow Stardust Solar to collect royalties on all business activities conducted in Zambia and to oversee the importation and distribution of solar products within the country.

The company, which specialises in the design and installation of photovoltaic systems, energy storage solutions, and electric vehicle charging stations, is deploying its proven franchise model in a high-potential market. This partnership is based on an exclusive contract granted to Megatricity Energy, led by Dr Ochas Kashinge Pupwe, Lee Lewanika Simbeye, and Chileshe Mpunga Chilufya.

A proven model applied to emerging markets

Stardust Solar plans to provide its Zambian partner with full technical support, including training, engineering, and operational assistance. This framework aims to ensure a consistent standard of quality for future installations in the country. According to the company’s management, Zambia’s growing electricity demand and high solar potential offer favourable conditions for implementing the North American model.

Across Africa, solar projects are frequently financed by institutional investors or third-party partners, facilitating large-scale infrastructure initiatives. Leveraging this dynamic, Stardust Solar aims to expand its presence to other African markets in the coming years.

A strategy focused on local structuring

The franchise will include community-based training programmes, already tested in Canada and the United States, to build local skills and strengthen the adoption of proposed technologies. According to Megatricity Energy executives, this approach will help establish a resilient business capable of addressing local energy challenges.

Through this rollout, Stardust Solar seeks to combine business growth with brand consolidation in new territories. Its business model relies on structured replication, enabling each franchise entity to access standardised resources while adapting to local contexts.

International expansion beyond North America

The entry into the African market follows a period of rapid growth for Stardust Solar in North America, where the company has expanded installations in both residential and commercial sectors. With this new partnership in Zambia, it initiates a global deployment strategy targeting regions with high population growth and limited energy infrastructure.

Stardust Solar’s management views Africa as a long-term strategic axis, given the convergence of urgent energy needs and abundant solar resources. The company aims to grow its franchise network while reinforcing its position in the global renewable energy market.
