SLB, a technology leader in the oil and gas industry, and Ormat Technologies, a specialist in renewable energies, have entered into a strategic partnership to develop geothermal energy. This partnership aims to offer a complete range of geothermal solutions, from initial exploration to plant operation.

Integrated solutions for geothermal projects

This strategic partnership offers an integrated solution for geothermal projects, covering all stages from exploration and resource evaluation to the commissioning and operation of power plants. This approach aims to streamline the project lifecycle, reducing risk and improving profitability. What’s more, the geothermal sector is booming, and more and more players are counting on this energy to diversify the current energy mix.
SLB will contribute its expertise in reservoir characterization, well construction, completions and production technologies. Ormat, for its part, will contribute its in-depth knowledge of geothermal fields, project development, plant design and manufacture, and engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) capabilities.

Combined expertise for enhanced performance

SLB has over a century’s experience in the underground environment and has been involved in 80% of the world’s geothermal projects. Ormat is recognized as the world’s largest manufacturer of binary geothermal equipment and the second largest owner and operator of geothermal fields and power plants.
Irlan Amir, Vice President of Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency at SLB, says the partnership will maximize the potential of geothermal resources, combining SLB’s expertise in reservoir and well construction technologies with Ormat’s in geothermal project development and technologies.

Advanced technologies and innovation

Paul Thomsen, Vice President Business Development at Ormat, emphasizes that this collaboration will enable us to deliver more projects with exceptional added value for developers. The partnership includes enhanced geothermal systems and advanced geothermal solutions, with SLB having licensed Ormat’s EGS patent.
