Šilalė II, an onshore wind farm in Lithuania from Enefit Green is feeding electricity into the grid for the first time.
A wind farm of 12 turbines
Šilalė II has 12 General Electric wind turbines with a rated power of 3.6MW each. The diameter of the blades is 138 meters and the nacelle is 131 meters high. In addition, the maximum height of the wind turbine is about 200 meters with the height of the blade tip.
The total capacity of the Šilalė II park will be 43MWand its annual production 160GW. In addition, its construction would start in September 2021 and the finalcompletion would take place in February 2023. At the end of 2022, 4 of the 12 wind turbines will be in operation.
Acceleration of construction
Lauri Ulm, Field Manager for Wind Energy at Enefit Green, states:
“We embraced the goal of starting production as soon as possible to add renewable energy to the market. We went from the start of construction to first production in just over a year, which is the minimum time for a wind farm like this. We will continue to test the wind farm and connect the last wind turbines to the grid so that the Šilalė wind farm is fully operational.”
According to Lauri Ulm the construction of Šilalė II shows how fast it is possible to build new renewable energy production units. The wind farm In addition, Šilalė II is the first of Enefit Green’s four wind farms under construction to begin generating electricity.
The Purtse wind farm in Estonia will then begin production followed by the 75MW Akmenė wind farm in Lithuania. Finally, the 72W Tolpanvaara wind farm in Finland will start up at the end of 2023. Thus, more than 700GW of renewable electricity will be added to the regional electricity market from these parks in total.
