Shell Energy and AMPYR are partnering to develop a battery-based energy storage system located in Australia. The project is located in Wellington in central western New South Wales. In addition, the company is moving closer to Foresigh in Western Australia.

Multiple partnerships

Shell Energy and AMPYR will develop one of the largest battery storage projects. It will complement nearby renewable energy assets. This Wellington project will have a capacity of 500MW/1000MWh.

Foresight also announces a joint partnership with Shell Energy. This 370MW renewable energy project is located in Western Australia. The selected site is 245 kilometers east of Perth, in the northern part of Kondinin Township.

The Wellington Project

The Wellington BESS will connect to the adjacent TransGrid Wellington substation near a renewable energy zone. It will mitigate fluctuations in electricity supply from these new intermittent power sources. Thus, it will provide benefits in system security and other network services.

The Shel Energy and AMPYR project has been in development for over 18 months. The environmental impact statement will be issued at the end of the month. In addition, construction is expected to begin in mid-2023. In addition, the Central West region of New South Wales will eventually have 3GW of wind and solar power.

The Kondinin Project

Foresight invests in renewable energy assets with a total capacity of 787MW through wind, hydro and solar assets. It thus extends its extensive pipeline of ARIF opportunities to more than 3,000MW. Phase 1 includes the development of a 121MW wind farm.

A second stage of 114MW is under discussion in parallel with an energy storage system of 60MW/120MWh capacity. In addition, Shell Energy and Foresight’s project includes 125 hectares of solar energy with a capacity of 80MW. The final investment decision for the construction of Phase 1 is expected in 2024.
