Schneider Electric has announced plans to establish its new North American headquarters at the Winthrop Center, located in Boston’s financial district. The company is expected to begin occupying the space starting mid-2026, with approximately 75,000 square feet across multiple floors. This relocation represents a tripling of its current office space at One Boston Place, reinforcing its presence in the region since 2014.

A technological showcase for customers

This new headquarters will become Schneider Electric’s first “Impact Building” in the United States, a concept that integrates digital systems to optimise energy performance, occupant comfort and operational management. It will also house an Executive Experience Center, the first of its kind in North America, designed to demonstrate the group’s energy and automation management solutions live. This centre will complement Schneider Electric’s global network of innovation hubs.

The group’s technologies have already been implemented at Winthrop Center since the building’s opening in 2023, including the EcoStruxure™ Building Operation software, Building Advisor and Security Expert. These systems ensure optimised energy management and a continuously improved user experience.

A building designed for energy performance

Winthrop Center, developed by Millennium Partners in collaboration with researchers from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, was designed by Handel Architects. With its 62 storeys, it is certified as the world’s largest office building meeting the international “Passive House” standard. The building uses 150% less energy than typical Class A buildings in Boston and 60% less than LEED Platinum certified buildings in the city.

The complex comprises 812,000 square feet of office space and 510,000 square feet of residential space, including 317 residences. It also features amenities designed for employee well-being, such as a fitness centre, golf simulator and eight dining options.

Strengthened regional presence

Present in Massachusetts through offices in Boston, Andover and Foxborough, Schneider Electric affirms its position as a major industrial player in the state. The company employs more than 23,000 people in the United States and its technologies are found in 40% of American homes and hospitals worldwide. In early 2025, two new research laboratories were opened in Andover, reflecting the group’s ongoing regional expansion.

The choice of Boston also aligns with the Boston Emissions Reduction and Disclosure Ordinance (BERDO), which requires large buildings to reduce carbon emissions. Winthrop Center, already compliant with the strictest energy performance thresholds, meets these requirements through its low consumption profile.
