RWE has been awarded four projects in Italy’s FER-X renewable energy auction, with a total capacity of 68 megawatts. The awarded contract for difference (CfD) covers one onshore wind farm and three solar installations located across the Basilicata, Campania and Sicily regions.
A 42 MW onshore wind project planned in Basilicata
The largest project is the Serra Giannina wind farm in the province of Potenza, Basilicata. It will feature six turbines with a total capacity of 42 megawatts. The site marks RWE’s twentieth onshore wind development in Italy. Construction is scheduled to begin in 2026, according to the established timeline.
Three solar projects across two southern regions
In Campania, RWE plans to install two ground-mounted solar plants, Ponte Valentino 1 and 2, in the Benevento province. Equipped with approximately 32,000 solar modules, the plants will deliver a combined capacity of 17.65 megawatts. In Sicily, the Carcitella project, an 8-megawatt Agri-PV facility, will feature 13,000 modules mounted on single-axis tracker systems.
Targeted development strategy in the Italian market
RWE currently operates 17 onshore wind farms in the country, with a combined installed capacity of 598 megawatts. This output is sufficient to supply electricity to more than 500,000 households. In addition, two more wind projects are under construction: Serra Palino (47 MW) in Apulia and Venusia (45 MW) in Basilicata.
Growth of Agri-PV portfolio
RWE has also won three projects in the most recent Agri-PV auction, totalling 30.2 megawatts of capacity. The company continues to pursue an investment strategy focused on the integrated development, construction and operation of its solar and wind energy assets.
