RWE, the German energy producer, has announced the official commissioning of its first wind farm in Brittany, located in the municipalities of Plounérin and Plounévez-Moëdec. The onshore Beg Ar C’Hra wind farm comprises four Nordex N117 turbines, with a total installed capacity of 14.7 megawatts (MW). The projected annual output is expected to supply electricity to approximately 7,000 households, or nearly 15,000 people.

A local partnership to ease integration

The project was co-developed with the semi-public company (SEM) Lannion-Trégor up to the granting of the environmental permit, issued in 2022 without appeal. Construction began in autumn 2023. The first megawatts were injected into the grid in November 2024. This co-development model enables better coordination between public and industrial stakeholders while reducing delays linked to regulatory procedures.

Structural benefits for the region

RWE supported the commissioning with several local development measures. Hedgerows were planted, and a pond suitable for amphibians was created. A hibernation area for reptiles was also set up. Additionally, an electricity line burial project was carried out in Plounévez-Moëdec and is due to be completed in Plounérin in the coming weeks.

RWE expands its regional footprint

The inauguration of the Beg Ar C’Hra wind farm marks a milestone in RWE Renewables France’s strategy in the Brittany region. The company views this as a lever to strengthen its national presence through co-developed projects with local authorities. “This wind farm symbolises our commitment to promoting an inclusive energy transition rooted in its territory,” said Joseph Fonio, President of RWE Renewables France.
