At the WindEurope conference in Bilbao, RWE and Nordex formalized a multi-year contract to supply wind turbines with a total capacity of 800 megawatts (MW). Over the next 2.5 years, RWE plans to acquire around 120 Nordex wind turbines for its European markets, consolidating a long-standing collaboration that already includes 53 wind farms in seven countries.

Expansion and cooperation objectives

Katja Wünschel, CEO of RWE Renewables Europe & Australia, highlighted the company’s accelerated expansion: aiming to increase its installed capacity in the onshore wind sector from the current 8.6 gigawatts to 14 gigawatts by 2030. This agreement with Nordex is crucial to achieving these ambitious goals, by strengthening the supply chain and building on strong partnerships.

A shared commitment to the energy transition

José Luis Blanco, CEO of the Nordex Group, expresses his enthusiasm at the prospect of expanding their collaboration with RWE. The two companies share a long history of successful projects and a common vision of actively promoting the energy transition, thereby contributing to Europe’s energy security.

Turbine technologies and models

RWE’s main focus will be on the N163 turbine model, with a flexible rated output of up to 6.8 MW. The N175 (up to 6.8 MW) and N149 (up to 5.9 MW) models will also be available for RWE’s key markets in Europe, as required. This diversified choice of models enables optimum adaptation to regional specificities and site requirements.

In addition to the supply contract, RWE and Nordex have signed a multi-year service agreement for the maintenance and servicing of onshore wind farms.
