Energy producer RWE commissioned four onshore wind farms and one solar farm in France during the summer, with a combined capacity of 83 megawatts (MW). This operation, carried out in the Hauts-de-France, Normandy and Nouvelle-Aquitaine regions, strengthens the German group’s presence in the French market, four years after its arrival.

Deployment across three regions

In Hauts-de-France, three projects were finalised. The Catillon-Fumechon wind farm, located in the commune of the same name, includes six turbines with a capacity of 21.6 MW. The Catésis-Bois Marronnier site, spanning the communes of Troivilles and Reumont, comprises eight turbines totalling 29.2 MW. In addition, the Nouvions wind farm was expanded with the installation of four new turbines (19.2 MW).

In Normandy, RWE connected the Ormesnils wind farm, made up of two turbines with a combined 9.6 MW. In Nouvelle-Aquitaine, the company completed the development of the Pierrières solar farm, located in the commune of Ardillières, with a capacity of 4.2 MWc supported by 7,420 solar modules.

A growing national portfolio

The commissioning of these projects is part of the tenders awarded by the Energy Regulatory Commission (CRE) in 2023, in which RWE had been selected. Since 2020, the group has brought 265 MW into operation in France, most of which comes from onshore wind power.

In 2024, RWE secured an additional 82 MW during the latest onshore wind tenders. These new projects, still in preparation, are expected to contribute to the country’s electricity production targets while consolidating the company’s position in the French market.

Local anchoring supported by authorities

All sites were developed in coordination with the local authorities concerned. The installation process involved several stages of local consultation. The group currently holds a development portfolio of 1.6 GW of onshore wind projects and 1 GWc of solar projects in France, at various stages of progress.
