RES and Modvion start a new collaboration to equip future wind farms with wooden towers. The agreement aims to make RES’ wind farms among the most sustainable in the world.

Promote innovative technology

RES signs a letter of intent to include Modvion’s technology in future wind energy projects. The agreement includes a future order for Modvion towers worth approximately SEK 4 billion. For example, RES Nordics is promoting Modvion’s modular wood-based tower technology to its suppliers.

Matilda Afzelius, CEO of RES in the Nordic countries, says:

“RES is committed to the Science Based Target initiative which focuses on cutting emissions in half by 2030 and achieving net zero emissions by 2050 and innovations such as Modvion’s are beneficial to achieving such goals.”

Thus, the objective is to promote and sell massively this technology. Indeed, Modvion will supply wind farms developed by RES with approximately 20 towers per year from 2026 to 2036.

Decarbonizing and making the wind sector profitable

For Otto Lundman, CEO of Modvion, this technology represents the future of wind power:

“RES wind farms will become the most sustainable in the world when we provide emission-free towers. We need more companies like RES to lead the way in building renewable energy with renewable materials.”

Indeed, switching from emission-intensive materials such as steel and concrete to wood can significantly reduce emissions. Wood also stores carbon, acting as a carbon sink.

This technology reduces the emissions of the entire wind turbine by 30%. In addition, laminated wood is stronger than steel for the same weight. Finally, its modular design allows for transport and assembly on site.
