Recon Technology Ltd., a China-based provider of energy services, has announced the signing of a major contract for the upgrade of automation systems at a significant gas field in Central Asia. The contract is valued at $5.85mn (CNY42.74mn), with project delivery scheduled over the next twelve months. This initiative forms part of a maintenance plan designed to ensure ongoing production capacity at the currently operational site.
Infrastructure upgrade and regional challenges
The company, through a domestic affiliated entity in China, will work on the automation and control of the gas field’s facilities. Operations include upgrading key systems to maintain output volumes and secure equipment. The contract also covers optimisation of industrial processes, which is seen as essential for maintaining site competitiveness amid strong energy demand in the region.
According to Shenping Yin, Chief Executive Officer of Recon Technology Ltd., this contract represents a significant milestone in the group’s international expansion. He noted that it follows a similar automation services engagement outside China in 2012, further consolidating the group’s position in strategic gas markets.
Sector under pressure and commercial outlook
Central Asia is a key area for natural gas production and distribution, where infrastructure upgrades remain a priority for many operators. Investment in automation and maintenance helps address growing requirements for supply security and reliability. Recon Technology’s interventions are planned on platforms already in operation, resulting in a tight schedule to minimise service interruptions.
The company expects that successful completion of this assignment could pave the way for further similar contracts in the region. “Despite strong competition, we regard this contract as recognition of our technical capabilities and ability to maintain solid partnerships within the sector,” said Shenping Yin.
