Qatargas announces the delivery of an LNG cargo to the Jiangsu-Binhai terminal in China in September 2022.
A strategic terminal
Qatargas was exporting a shipment of LNG to China. The cargo left Ras Laffan on September 10, 2022 and arrived at the Jiangsu-Binhai terminal on September 26. The vessel Al Ghashamiya with a capacity of 216,000 cubic meters made the connection.
The Jiangsu-Binhai terminal is owned by CNOOC and is located on the east coast of China. The infrastructure is capable of handling nearly three million tons of LNG each year. In addition, Jiangsu-Binhai has four reservoirs with a capacity of 880,000 cubic meters and plans to increase this capacity.
Long-term deliveries
Since 2008, Qatargas Group has had a strong partnership with China. By 2022, the company will supply about 22% of China’s LNG demand. Thus, the company supports the country’s growing need for LNG.
Deliveries are made within the framework of long-term sales and purchase agreements between the two countries. The state-owned CNOOC signed a 15-year sale and purchase agreement in 2021. This agreement with Qatargas contracts for the supply of 3.5 million tons of LNG per year.
