Portugal: COP opens office to unlock offshore wind

Copenhagen Offshore Partners sets up in Portugal to develop offshore wind energy in the country! The world leader has opened a new office in Porto and will start market assessment activities for the 2 GW Nortada project. With this extension, COP supports Portugal's ambitions to reach 10 GW of offshore wind energy and continues to develop its global offshore wind portfolio.

Copenhagen Offshore Partners (COP) recently announced the opening of its new office in Porto, Portugal. COP aims to support the country in its efforts to reach 10 GW of offshore wind targets by developing the 2 GW Nortada floating offshore wind project off Figueira da Foz, which is expected to be the country’s first large-scale offshore project.

Floating projects for cleaner energy

COP is currently developing a global offshore wind portfolio of 50 GW, of which more than 40% are floating projects. The company is proud to establish a local footprint in Portugal to support its ambitions to integrate floating offshore wind solutions into the country’s energy mix. The conditions are right to advance floating wind and develop the COP portfolio in Portugal.

 

Clean energy as a vehicle for economic growth

The market director of COP Portugal, Afonso Cesar Machado, stressed that the Nortada project will serve as an example for the reindustrialization and economic growth of the country. COP is committed to working with local partners to ensure that offshore wind development contributes to well-paying jobs, local manufacturing opportunities and other synergies that strengthen local communities.
