Pedunculo, discovered by TotalEnergies northwest of the Sepia oil field, is located 250 km from Rio de Janeiro.

An important potential

The Pedunculo discovery is located in a joint venture perimeter whose rights transfer contract belongs to Petrobras. TotalEnergies has a 19.2% production interest, QatarEnergy 14.4% and Petronas 14.4%. Petrobras operates the site and owns 51.9% of it for a daily production of 170,000 barrels of oil.

The well reaches a water depth of about 2200 meters. The net thickness of the oil column in the well stands out as one of the highest ever recorded in Brazil. Reservoir characterization and measurement of the extent of the discovery are underway.

A strategic partnership

David Mendelson, President of TotalEnergies Exploration & Production Americas, said:

“This is excellent news, just a few months after we concluded our entry into the world-class Sepia field in Brazil, where we are already benefiting from the production performance of the first FPSO. The confirmed resources from the Pedunculo well appear to exceed pre-drilling expectations and reinforce the future development potential of the area. Thanks to their exceptional productivity and the innovative technologies used for their development, these resources are fully in line with TotalEnergies’ low-cost, low-emission oil portfolio.”

In addition, the French company employs 3,000 people in its business segments covering exploration and production activities.

In 2021, the Company’s production in the country will average 49,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day. However, this number is expected to exceed 100,000 by 2022. In 2017, TotalEnergies and Petrobras formed a strategic alliance in exploration and production activities.
