Pedro Cherry has officially been appointed chief executive officer of Mississippi Power, following the board of directors’ decision during the company’s centennial year. This change in leadership comes as Anthony Wilson, after more than forty years of service, steps down from his roles as chief executive officer and chairman of the board.

A three-decade career in the energy sector

Pedro Cherry, the fourteenth president in Mississippi Power’s century-long history, brings thirty years of experience in the energy industry. He has spent nearly twenty-five years within the Southern Company group. Before joining Mississippi Power, he served as chief executive officer of two natural gas distribution companies in the southern United States, Atlanta Gas Light and Chattanooga Gas, providing energy to approximately 1.8 mn customers across two states.

Upon his arrival in March, Cherry undertook a series of meetings with local associations, customers, and employees to deepen his understanding of the territory and the expectations of users in Southeast Mississippi. He highlighted the importance of safety, reliability, and service for the company as Mississippi Power enters its second century of operation.

A context of sustained regional development

Pedro Cherry’s appointment comes at a time when the region is experiencing significant economic growth and increased demand for energy. According to Cherry, Mississippi Power must continue to meet customer expectations efficiently while supporting the evolution of the regional market. The company relies on the experience of its teams to anticipate challenges related to the energy transition and the modernisation of its infrastructure.

In recent months, the company has focused on maintaining service continuity and preparing for its industrial future, as energy demand continues to rise in the region. Supporting local projects and network stability are at the centre of the roadmap outlined by the new leadership.

Long-term commitment and outlook

Anthony Wilson’s departure, after having helped shape Mississippi Power’s strategy over several decades, marks a turning point in the company’s governance. The new chief executive officer has stressed the central role of customer service and the company’s ongoing commitment to economic and institutional stakeholders in Mississippi.

Pedro Cherry stated that Mississippi Power’s mission would be guided by customer trust and support for local development. He also affirmed that the company would continue to adapt to keep pace with the region’s growth dynamic, while maintaining safety and network reliability standards.
