Energy solutions provider Onyx Renewables announced the completion of two ground-mounted solar plants with a total capacity of 13 megawatts at the Fort Polk military installation in Louisiana. The project was carried out in collaboration with Corvias, a specialist in sustainable infrastructure, as part of an initiative aimed at ensuring long-term predictable electricity rates for the U.S. Army.

The facilities are located on a single 97-acre parcel and consist of two interconnected photovoltaic systems. Commissioning is scheduled for the fall of 2025. Under the partnership model, Onyx will finance, own, and operate the facilities throughout the duration of the Power Purchase Agreement (PPA), set for 25 years.

A project designed to enhance energy stability

In collaboration with the U.S. Army, Onyx and Corvias aim to strengthen Fort Polk’s grid stability while reducing electricity supply costs. The addition of battery storage systems and microgrid controls is also being considered to further increase the site’s energy resilience.

According to initial estimates, the two facilities are expected to cover around 40% of the electricity demand from on-base housing during their first year of operation. The development of these infrastructures is part of a broader strategy to modernize the energy capacities of U.S. military bases.

Operational continuity and regulatory expertise

This project builds on the prior experience of both partners, notably in the development of distributed generation (DG) projects such as those carried out at Fort Riley. Their expertise in navigating complex regulatory environments enabled them to deliver this project within the agreed timeframe, despite the specific requirements associated with military installations.

The completion of these solar facilities at Fort Polk reflects an energy strategy focused on operational performance and continuity of on-site services. By engaging in large-scale projects in the field of energy infrastructure for the public sector, Onyx and Corvias strengthen their position in a strategic segment with high technical constraints.
