OGUSA, or Osaka Gas USA, intends to develop solar energy. It has had a presence in the U.S. since 2004, and since 2012 has been increasingly expanding into the country. It is multiplying its investments in solar energy.
OGUSA goes solar (again) with Summit Ridge
OGUSA and Summit Ridge collaborate to develop solar in the U.S. Together they launch a joint venture. It aims to develop and operate 50 MW in Illinois.
Summit Ridge is a major player in the U.S. solar energy industry. By the end of 2023, it will have over 500 MW of solar projects and 100 MWh of storage. Thus, it provides its services to some 175,000 households.
The collaboration between OGUSA and Summit Ridge is not new. In fact, in 2021, they cooperated in Maine. This agreement aims to build 120 MW of solar projects. Thus, this first collaboration reached 11,000 households. With this new agreement, OGUSA and Summit Ridge renew their cooperation.
A collaboration that will benefit Illinois
The state of Illinois is counting on this kind of initiative to meet its federal carbon emission targets. The state has an incentive policy and subsidy programs to attract investors. This is the strategy of the United States, which opens up access to subsidies via calls for tender until they are exhausted.
In 2020, the state had 492 MW of solar capacity. Currently, photovoltaic installations can supply more than 200,000 homes.
In addition, the state plans to convert 9 coal-fired power plants into solar farms. This demonstrates the efforts in favor of the energy transition and the opportunities created for specialists in the sector.
