Ocean Winds obtains a positive environmental decision for the BC-Wind offshore wind farm in Poland.
A fundamental step
Ocean Winds, a 50/50 joint venture between EDP Renewables and ENGIE, obtains a positive environmental decision. The Polish Regional Environmental Protection Directorate issues a positive opinion for its BC-Wind offshore wind farm. Thus, ithis decision concludes the environmental impact assessment process for the project.
This is the company’s first project in the Polish Baltic Sea. It will be located 23 kilometers north of the municipalities of Choczewo and Krokowa in the Pomeranian Voivodeship. The wind farm should provide a total capacity of 400MW.
Since 2019, the company has been conducting extensive research with experts on a 298 square kilometer area. Grzegorz Gorski, COO of Ocean Winds, says:
“We are now focusing on the next phases of investment, particularly securing contracts with the supply chain in accordance with the targeted project schedule.”
In addition, the studies allow the identification of 72 geological forms and 6 wrecks in the area.
A start-up planned for 2027
C-Wind and B-Wind were receiving a site permit in 2013. This authorization allowed for the evaluation of the environmental impact of the investments. Finally, the company received the conditions of connection to the network.
In 2021, Ocean Winds is finalizing the environmental conditions report. This study, which began in 2019, takes into account marine currents, hydrological and meteorological monitoring.
