Nordex Group wins contract from RWE to supply and install eleven Delta4000 series turbines for two wind projects in Lower Saxony, Germany, totaling 61.8 MW.

Repowering of wind farms in Germany: a solution for more efficient energy production

The Lesse wind farm will have seven N149/5.X turbines and one N133/4800 machine, while the Barbecke wind farm will have three N149/5.X turbines. These projects are repowering initiatives that involve replacing 17 older turbine models with more powerful machines. This will double the previous production of the wind farms from 30.6 MW to 61.8 MW while using fewer turbines.

According to Felipe Villalon Waldburg-Zeil, Sales Director for the Nordex Group’s Central Region, “In the case of repowering, less is more. Thanks to modern and efficient turbine technology, the electricity produced by older wind farms can be significantly increased using fewer turbines. Repowering projects will become increasingly important in Germany in the future, as nearly 6,000 older turbines have been in operation for more than 20 years.

Nordex onshore turbines: efficient and sustainable products for wind energy

The Nordex Group is a leading supplier of wind turbines, with installations in more than 40 markets and a product portfolio focused on onshore turbines from 4 to 6.X MW. The company generated revenues of 5.7 billion euros in 2022 and employs approximately 9,000 people. The joint manufacturing capacity includes plants in Germany, Spain, Brazil, the United States, India and Mexico.

This announcement demonstrates the Nordex Group’s commitment to providing efficient and sustainable wind energy solutions. With the repowering of these wind farms, they are making a significant contribution to Germany’s renewable energy goals, helping to reduce the country’s carbon footprint and move toward a more sustainable future.
