If approved, the Sunnyside Solar Energy Center, located on around 125 acres in Fitchburg, will incorporate 20 MW of solar capacity capable of supplying electricity to around 6,000 homes. In addition, the 40 MW storage system will meet energy needs during peak demand, especially when solar or wind generation is insufficient.

MGE’s Carbon Reduction Objectives

Under the leadership of President and CEO Jeff Keebler, MGE aims to reduce carbon emissions by 80% by 2030. In addition, it hopes to achieve carbon neutrality for all its electricity customers by 2050. This project is part of a series of initiatives adopted by MGE to decarbonize its network in a cost-effective way.

Expansion of Renewable Capacities

With the recent addition of Red Barn Wind Farm and the second phase of Badger Hollow Solar Farm, as well as Tyto Solar in February 2024. MGE increased its energy mix with 65 MW of new wind and solar capacity. More than 50 MW of solar production should be added by the end of the year with projects already underway.

Continuous Efforts for Energy Efficiency

MGE works with its customers to promote energy efficiency and the electrification of transport. It wishes to align itself with the strategies identified by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC).
