Renewable hydrogen producer Lhyfe has formalised the signing of a multi-year contract with an operator active in the heavy mobility sector. The agreement covers the supply of over 200 tonnes of RFNBO-certified (Renewable Fuel of Non-Biological Origin) hydrogen, the European Union’s most stringent standard for non-biological origin renewable fuels.
A volume equivalent to 2.5 million kilometres travelled
The hydrogen supplied under this contract will enable heavy-duty vehicles to travel around 2.5 million kilometres. According to available data, this corresponds to an avoidance of approximately 1,700 tonnes of carbon dioxide compared to conventional fossil fuels. The agreement has been in effect since 1 November 2025, although the client’s name and financial terms have not been disclosed.
This operation confirms Lhyfe’s strategy to secure long-term offtake for its production in a transforming sector. The contract was announced during the Solutrans trade fair, a key event in the urban and road transport sector held this week in Lyon.
European certifications and market prospects
The RFNBO label requires strict criteria on the renewable origin of the electricity used to produce hydrogen. Incorporating this standard into Lhyfe’s deliveries reflects an upgrade in the offering to industrial clients and fleet operators.
The agreement also highlights the strengthening role of hydrogen in the heavy mobility sector, particularly for long-distance trucks, where battery electrification remains less suitable for certain applications.
