Lamprell Develops Moray West

Lamprell has received full notice to proceed with the development of the Moray West offshore wind project in Scotland.

Partagez:

Lamprell is developing the Moray West offshore wind farm. The work, first reported on March 22, was confirmed by Lamprell.

In fact, the company signed a contract worth more than $200 million. The company then received full notice to proceed with the development of the Moray West offshore wind project.

Moray West offshore wind farm development

The Moray West offshore wind farm is a new offshore wind farm, off the coast of Scotland, which will consist of 60 turbines. Once built, the park will have a capacity of 882 MW of safe and reliable energy. Thus, this capacity could provide electricity to nearly 640,000 homes.

The company Ocean Winds is developing the Moray West project. In fact, it is the result of a joint venture between EDP Renewables (EDPR) and ENGIE. In addition, the project aims to be fully operational by 2024/2025.

The work planned by Lamprell

Lamprell is one of the leading service providers to the international energy sector. The company is known for building complex offshore and onshore process modules and platforms.

The basic work includes the construction of 60 pieces of wind turbine generators. They also include the construction of two transition pieces for the two Moray West offshore substations.

To carry out this work, the group will use a state-of-the-art renewable energy production line. However, it is still under construction. With this line, the company will be able to build components for transition pieces and monopiles.

The transition piece of a fixed offshore wind turbine is a reinforced part of the support structure that is connected to the tower of the wind turbine. These elements contribute to the structural strength and reliability of offshore wind turbines.

The monopile is a steel pile consisting of steel tubes and cones that are located under the turbine tower. These monopiles are inserted between 10 and 20 meters into the seabed depending on its stability.

The transition pieces form, together with the monopiles, the foundation of the turbines.
