ITC Holdings Corp. has announced a major leadership change with the planned departure of its Chief Executive Officer, Linda Apsey, in March 2026. Krista Tanner, currently the company’s President, will officially assume the role of President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) on March 23, 2026. She will also join the Board of Directors of the US-based electricity transmission operator.

A transition after more than two decades of leadership

Linda Apsey will step down after a 23-year career at ITC Holdings Corp., where she was one of the founding members of the leadership team. She became CEO in 2016 after serving in several executive roles, including President, Executive Vice President and Chief Business Officer. Under her leadership, ITC has overseen the largest capital investment plans in its history, improved grid reliability, and maintained high safety standards in the sector.

Board Chair Sandra Pierce highlighted that this departure marks the end of an era for ITC, praising Apsey’s ability to guide the company through profound changes in the energy industry. No financial details related to Apsey’s retirement were disclosed.

A strategic path to leadership

Krista Tanner, who will take the helm of the company, joined ITC in 2014 as President of ITC Midwest. Since 2024, she has served as Group President, responsible for the overall operations of all subsidiaries. She previously held the roles of Senior Vice President and Chief Business Officer. Her background also includes regulatory work at the Iowa Utilities Board (IUB), as well as a legal career and tenure at Alliant Energy.

Her appointment comes at a time of adaptation for ITC, as the company anticipates growing demand for grid modernisation and infrastructure expansion. Tanner will be responsible for guiding future strategic directions in high-voltage transmission across the evolving North American market.

Outlook and operational continuity

ITC Holdings Corp., a subsidiary of Fortis Inc., operates one of the largest independent electricity transmission networks in North America. Through this leadership change, Fortis Inc. expressed confidence in Tanner’s ability to ensure continuity and reinforce the company’s position. David Hutchens, President and CEO of Fortis, praised Linda Apsey’s impact on ITC’s growth and stability, while stating that Tanner has the experience needed to meet the sector’s future challenges.

The company has not announced any immediate change to its operational strategy following the appointment. Next steps are expected to clarify Tanner’s agenda regarding infrastructure development and investment in the high-voltage grid.
