A large offshore park in Finland

Korsnäs will be located off the west coast of Finland and will have a capacity of 1.3GW. Thus, its potential annual production would amount to 5TWh. Vattenfall wins Metsähallitus‘ first international tender.

Helene Biström, head of Vattenfall’s wind power business, says:

“Vattenfall is one of the leading offshore wind developers in Europe. We are very honored to have been selected to develop Finland’s first large-scale offshore wind farm. We look forward to bringing our extensive experience to the Korsnäs project, helping Finland achieve its ambitious climate goals.”

With Korsnäs, Vattenfall is expanding its role in Finalnde. In addition, Finland has set a goal of achieving zero net emissions by 2035.

A recognized experience

Metsähallitus, a state-owned company, plays a key role in achieving this goal. Indeed, it is one of the managers of the land and water owned by the Finnish state. Juha S. Niemelä, Managing Director of Metsähallitus, says:

“We are very pleased to partner with Vattenfall, which has presented a strong track record on large-scale offshore wind projects as well as sustainable business practices in addition to competitive commercial terms. We are convinced that this project will benefit the people of Korsnäs, the economic area around Vaasa as well as the Finnish state.”

The Korsnäs wind farm requires an estimated investment of €2 to €3 billion. The project is expected to become operational in the early 2030s. Finally, the project will supply more than two million apartments or about 250,000 houses annually.
