The onshore wind farm Jüchen is being dismantled to make way for the construction of a new wind farm.
Destruction of a wind farm
The Jüchen wind farm has wind turbines that have structural defects in the concrete parts of the hybrid towers. Recently, one of them was being deconstructed with dynamite. This operation was, however, carried out in complete safety.
This dismantling initiates the process of complete dismantling of the Jüchen wind farm. However, the dismantling of the turbines is underway in parallel with the cleaning work. It is necessary to proceed, first of all, to the removal of the upper components of the towers.
Following the dismantling of the metal parts, the lower concrete section was destroyed by dynamite. This dismantling process is a common, fast and economical method for concrete structures. The objective is to reuse the main components like the nacelle and the hub.
The new project
This method also allows the reuse of the drive train and the rotor blades. For safety reasons, the Jüchen wind farm has been shut down for months. Karsten Brüggemann, Managing Director of Nordex Germany GmbH, says:
“Today’s dismantling brings us closer to our common goal: the rapid reinstallation of the Jüchen wind farm next year. The green electricity generated by the six replacement turbines will be able to meet the needs of more than 26,000 households. My thanks go to the entire team. The dismantling of the turbine was prepared in detail in close coordination with the responsible authorities and accompanied by comprehensive safety measures. These include extensive cordoning off and permanent surveillance of the area. Specialists are now in charge of the clean-up work. As soon as the original state of the areas has been restored, construction of the new wind farm can begin.”
This new Jüchen wind farm will provide green energy to 26,000 German households. It will have a capacity of 27MW. Its construction will be completed in 2023.
RWE, the city of Jüchen and the energy provider NEW will jointly operate the wind farm. The various partners aim to build the new park next year. The Jüchen wind farm in Germany is currently undergoing cleaning operations.
