JORD Group, a specialist in process plant engineering, announces its entry into the capital of SwitcH2 BV, a company dedicated to developing floating green hydrogen and ammonia production solutions. This investment aims to finalize the design of a major 300 MW project located off the coast of Portugal.
An offshore project backed by proven industrial technologies
The project is based on a Floating Production, Storage, and Offloading (FPSO) unit, utilizing Ohmium’s PEM electrolysis technologies, ThyssenKrupp’s ammonia synthesis, and ABB’s electrical and control systems. Powered by coastal wind and solar energy sources, its goal is to produce green ammonia directly onboard, destined for local markets and Benelux ports.
A strategic collaboration for SwitcH2 and JORD Group
As part of this agreement, JOGS, a JORD Group subsidiary located near Rotterdam, will contribute to the design of the FPSO topside modules. With recognized expertise in offshore unit engineering, JOGS brings critical know-how to accelerate the infrastructure implementation.
SwitcH2, supported by BW Offshore and Dutch Oceans Capital, strengthens its ability to deploy large-scale industrial infrastructures. “We are delighted to leverage JORD’s expertise in chemical engineering and construction,” says Saskia Kunst, Managing Director and co-founder of SwitcH2.
Toward a final investment decision
The partners aim to secure a final investment decision (FID) in the coming months. The completion of this design phase represents a critical milestone toward the project’s effective realization.
Michel Bosman, Managing Director of JOGS, highlights the group’s commitment to this project: “JORD is fully committed and excited to participate in this initiative, which opens new perspectives in the energy industry.”
The commissioning of this offshore unit could mark a significant advancement in the logistics of green ammonia production and export, a rapidly growing sector on an international scale.
