Obtaining this certification is a considerable achievement for Plug Power Inc, which is aiming for 100MW per month of electrolyser batteries. This is the first international safety and performance certification for the manufacture of electrolyzers in Korea. This enables the company to penetrate a strategic market and meet the growing demand for hydrogen solutions in this region.

Strategic collaboration

This success stems from a strategic collaboration with SK E&S, a major player in Korea’s energy industry. Together, they have formed SK Plug HyVerse, a joint venture aimed at boosting the development of the hydrogen sector in Asia. This close collaboration was essential in obtaining the certification needed to market Plug Power’s electrolysers in Korea.

Technology and certification

Plug Power’s electrolyser technology, including the 1 MW EX425D, has been certified as compliant with the KGS Corporation standard. This certification confirms that Plug Power’s electrolyzers meet the most stringent safety and performance standards in Korea.

Pilot projects and expansion

SK Plug HyVerse is actively working on several pilot projects in Korea, notably on Jeju Island, where hydrogen-powered heavy-duty trucks are supported by Plug Power electrolyzers. In addition, SK Plug HyVerse plans to build more than 25 hydrogen refueling stations across the country. These pilot projects and this expansion illustrate the commitment of Plug Power and its partners to supporting the transition to a hydrogen economy in Korea.

This certification reinforces Plug Power’s position as a pioneer in the field of PEM electrolyzers in Korea. This success is contributing to the transition to a green hydrogen economy in the country, aligned with decarbonization and sustainable development objectives.
