In the Atacama Desert, Innergex celebrates the commissioning of its Salvador storage facility, marking a major milestone for energy storage in Chile.
Innergex Renewable Energy Inc. recently reached a major milestone in its commitment to renewable energies with the commissioning of its Salvador storage facility in Chile. With a capacity of 50 MW/250 MWh and located in the north of the country, this facility represents Innergex’s first large-scale energy storage site in Chile.
Salvador Storage Technology: A Revolutionary Advance
Located on the site of the 68 MW Salvador solar power plant in the Atacama desert, this energy storage facility enables Innergex to store surplus energy produced during the day for redistribution during periods of high demand in the evening. Thanks to this innovative technology, Innergex optimizes the project’s yields by avoiding daytime congestion and supporting the grid during peaks in energy demand.
Impact on the decarbonization of Chile’s energy sector
The Salvador facility is not only a crucial milestone for Innergex, it also contributes to the decarbonization of Chile’s energy sources. By integrating this facility into its diversified portfolio of wind, solar and hydroelectric assets, Innergex is effectively meeting the growing demand for 24/7 renewable energy.
Innergex: Committed to sustainable growth and long-term value
Michel Letellier, President and CEO of Innergex, emphasized the strategic importance of this facility: “The commissioning of our largest storage facility to date is a significant addition to our portfolio, demonstrating our commitment to sustainable growth and long-term value creation.” He also pointed out that this facility will enable Innergex to optimize revenues by following market trends and demand in Chile.
This remarkable achievement was made possible by the issuance of green bonds by Innergex in August 2022, ensuring full financing of the Salvador facility. The inauguration of the Salvador storage facility represents a giant step for Innergex and Chile towards a sustainable energy future.
