In Tamil Nadu, in the Tirunelveli district of India, Sunsure Energy is completing construction of a solar power plant.

A symbolic step for Sunsure Energy

In Tamil Nadu, Cleantech Solar’s EPC partner Sunsure Energy is completing the construction of a solar power plant. The project has a capacity of 74MWp. In addition, with this project, the company exceeds 250MW of installed solar capacity in 16 Indian states.

The solar power plant in Tamil Nadu will supply about 12,000 units of green energy to large industries in the Indian state each year. The electricity will be supplied to industrial consumers who have entered into long-term open access power purchase agreements with Cleantech Solar.

The solar park in Tamil Nadu is connected to TNEB’s 400kV substation at Kanarpatty in Tirunelveli. The connection is made via a common 230kV transmission line. Umakant Shende, vice president and country manager for India at Cleantech Solar India, says:

“Supplying green power through the open access model is the most efficient option for large industrial customers in Tamil Nadu to switch to sustainable power supply. Having a common extra high voltage (EHV) evacuation system allows us to reduce customers’ electricity expenses while ensuring high availability and reliability.”

A national ambition

The construction of the plant started in January 2022. It was conducted in three phases and covered an area of over 210 acres. The photovoltaic modules used are mono-PERC modules with a nominal capacity of up to 545Wp, as well as string inverters.

Tarunveer Singh, project manager at Sunsure Energy, says:

“This is our largest single-site installation and one of the largest open access projects in the renewable energy rich state of Tamil Nadu. Credit goes to our onsite team for completing this project on time, despite the weather-related execution challenges and supply chain constraints that have plagued the solar energy sector of late.”

Sunsure aims to continue to advance the green energy agenda for Indian industries. In addition, the company hopes to expand its partnership in the future with other such projects.

Sunsure’s solar power plants meet the clean energy demands of some of India’s most energy-intensive industrial consumers. In particular, the company uses on-site and off-site renewable energy facilities. In addition, the company’s customers include Dalmia Cement (Bharat), INOX Air Products, Hindware, Minda Industries and Surya Roshni.
