Canadian oil and gas company Horizon Petroleum Ltd. continues operational preparations ahead of initiating its first gas drilling on the Bielsko-Biala concession in southern Poland. Regulatory authorisations relating to the reconditioning operation of the Lachowice 7 (L7) well have been delivered according to the initial schedule, allowing the target start date of site work by mid-August 2025 to be maintained.

Preparations progress on Lachowice site

The company has filed the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) permit with the Polish Ministry of Climate and Environment in order to finalise remaining administrative procedures. Horizon Petroleum also confirms the recent completion of the relocation of a power line by the local operator, a crucial step to ensure heavy equipment and construction teams can fully access the L7 wellsite.

A call for tender has been issued for civil engineering works needed to develop the drilling site and to upgrade access roads. The awarding of contracts related to these works is expected by the end of the current month, allowing civil engineering operations to effectively begin in mid-August.

Economic potential of the L7 well

Subject to technical success of the reconditioning, commercialisation of natural gas or electricity generation from the Lachowice 7 well will constitute the first revenue stream for Horizon Petroleum Ltd. The well is also intended to serve as a large-scale test to sustainably evaluate the productivity of naturally fractured Devonian limestone and dolomite reservoirs.

David Winter, CEO of Horizon Petroleum, stated: “We are pleased to have obtained all necessary authorisations for the L7 well reconditioning operation within the set deadlines. We continue to make progress towards first commercial production and will keep our shareholders informed of the project’s progress.”

A crucial development for Horizon Petroleum

The launch of this first Polish project represents a critical milestone for Horizon Petroleum, whose business model relies on the exploitation of natural gas fields in Central and Eastern Europe. Ultimately, the company aims to generate steady revenues from the successful exploitation of this strategic site located in the gas-rich Bielsko-Biala region.
