Gotion, a major player in the energy sector, has officially launched its first Gigafactory in Europe, located in Šurany, Slovakia. This strategic project aims to strengthen the production capacity of electric vehicle batteries on the continent, a key sector for Europe’s energy transition. The site will cover 95 hectares and will have an initial production capacity of 20 GWh, with production expected to start in 2027.

The construction of this Gigafactory is not just a step forward for Gotion, but also for Slovakia, which becomes a central player in the European battery industry. The site will primarily serve the European market, thus optimizing logistics efficiency and regional supply capabilities.

In addition to its production function, the site will serve as a regional hub for innovation and research. Gotion plans to collaborate with local universities and institutions to foster innovation and train the talents necessary for Europe’s energy future. These partnerships aim to accelerate technological advancements and support the energy transition in the long term.

The project is also expected to create approximately 1,300 new jobs in its first phase, while attracting other supporting industries to the region. The job creation and economic boost generated by the Gigafactory have been praised by Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico, who emphasized the importance of this initiative for economic growth and improving the quality of life in the region.

Gotion’s Gigafactory represents a new phase in the company’s industrial strategy, aimed at making Europe more self-sufficient in battery production, while contributing to green growth and reducing carbon emissions in the automotive sector.
