Goldwind signs a new contract with Masdar and Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company for the supply of 111 turbine units.

A central project

Goldwind will deliver GW155-4.5MW turbines to Zarafshan wind farm. The site is located in the Navoi region in central Uzbekistan. Delivery of the project is expected to begin in the third quarter of 2022 and be completed by the end of 2024.

Once built and in operation, it will significantly improve the local energy mix. The wind farm will be able to power 500,000 Uzbek homes and save 1.1 million tons of carbon dioxide per year. The project will also help Uzbekistan reach its goal of increasing the proportion of green electricity to 25% by 2030.

A development strategy

Sun Lianhua, general manager of Goldwind’s Russian-speaking Central Asia region, says:

“The 500 MW Zarafshan wind project is an important step for Goldwind in promoting China’s wind energy independence, which will make a positive contribution to the country’s energy transition and create a new model of cooperation between China and Uzbekistan.”

Since the “Strategic Plan 2020-2030 for energy and electricity” the development of the country’s clean energy industry is accelerating. The country has gradually become a focal point for clean energy investments in Central Asia.

Goldwind enters the country’s market with the first 750kW wind power project in 2012. Driven by the Belt and Road Initiative, Goldwind is leveraging its product and technology advantages. Finally, the company is present in 32 countries.
