GEODIS, a global player in transport and logistics, and Électricité de France (EDF) announced the signing of a partnership on December 8 aimed at accelerating the decarbonisation of the logistics chain worldwide. The agreement includes close collaboration on several areas related to energy consumption at logistics sites and the electrification of transport.
Energy optimisation and local production
One of the key aspects of the partnership is the optimisation of the energy performance of GEODIS facilities. Audits and consumption optimisation plans will be carried out to reduce energy use, including technologies such as heat recovery. At the same time, the two companies will explore local renewable energy production, particularly through warehouse roof solarisation and the deployment of car park canopies.
EDF will also support GEODIS in finding low-carbon energy supply solutions, both in France and across its international platforms. The deployment of charging infrastructure for GEODIS vehicle fleets and those of its subcontractors is also among the identified priorities.
International deployment and land use strategy
The agreement also provides for the possibility of GEODIS delivering logistics services for EDF’s international projects, including the supply, storage and distribution of equipment related to energy production. The two groups will carry out feasibility assessments in countries where EDF is present.
Another component under review is the potential transformation of some GEODIS logistics sites into data centres. This aspect will be addressed within the Strategic Steering Committee, whose first meeting is scheduled in the coming days.
Subsidiaries involved and governance structure
The partnership will be implemented through a governance framework involving specialised EDF subsidiaries such as Izivia, dedicated to electric mobility solutions, and EDF Power Solutions, focused on energy services for businesses. These entities will lead operational discussions with GEODIS teams, based on their respective scopes of activity.
Through this partnership, GEODIS and EDF aim to explore industrial-scale deployment of low-carbon logistics solutions, leveraging their respective expertise in managing complex infrastructure and delivering energy services.
