Chinese group Envision Energy has announced the acquisition of the “Renewable Ammonia” certification granted by Bureau Veritas for the first phase of its green hydrogen and ammonia project located in Chifeng, in the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region. This recognition was unveiled during the World Hydrogen Summit and places the plant among the first in the world to meet the strict requirements set by the international inspection body.

Production based on renewable hydrogen

According to information provided by Envision Energy, the facility produces ammonia exclusively from renewable hydrogen generated by in-house electrolysers powered by wind and solar energy. The annual production capacity reaches 300,000 tonnes. The project is therefore positioned as one of the first industrial-scale deployments entirely based on decarbonised energy sources.

The certificate issued by Bureau Veritas confirms the site’s compliance with international standards in terms of carbon emissions, industrial safety and environmental management. This accreditation is part of the French group’s Leap|28 strategy, which aims to expand its services in the field of renewable energy and industrial inspection.

A factor for the project’s bankability

The certification enhances the plant’s technical and commercial credibility among investors and international partners. At the same time, Envision Energy is pursuing certification under the ISCC Plus (International Sustainability and Carbon Certification) framework for green liquid ammonia, as well as compliance with the European Union’s Renewable Fuels of Non-Biological Origin (RFNBO) criteria.

Frank Yu, Vice President of Envision Energy, stated that this step represents “a major milestone” in the project’s development, highlighting the alignment of technological innovation with regulatory compliance. Laurence Boisramé, Global Director of Hydrogen at Bureau Veritas, said this achievement helps set “a new benchmark” for the sector.
