Croatian energy company ENNA Solar, a subsidiary of ENNA Group, has signed an agreement with Austrian company Kraftfeld Energy to acquire a ready-to-build solar power plant project in Romania with a capacity of 87.52 MW, according to a press release issued on April 28. Construction is expected to start in the third quarter of 2025, with commissioning scheduled for the third quarter of 2026.
An investment of €60mn for a strategic project
The investment is estimated at approximately EUR60mn ($64.3mn). The power plant will be located in Giurgiu County, near Mihăilești, 25 kilometres southwest of Bucharest. The project will cover an area of 93 hectares, equivalent to around 130 football fields, and is expected to generate an average of 133 GWh of electricity per year, according to ENNA Solar.
Boštjan Napast, President of the Management Board of ENNA Group, stated that this project represents their first large-scale investment outside Croatia and is among their major renewable energy production initiatives.
Regional development strengthened by new solar projects
The Mihăilești project joins a dynamic region for solar development. Nearby, Israeli company Nofar is building the 146 MW Ghimpați solar power plant, while 169 MW and 74 MW projects are also under development in Iepurești and Slobozia respectively.
Kraftfeld Energy, the initial developer of the project, owns and operates solar farms and energy storage systems in several European countries, primarily Romania, Hungary, Croatia, and Austria.
A solar component integrated into a broader investment plan
The acquisition of the Mihăilești site is part of ENNA Group’s ten-year development plan, which includes EUR330mn ($353.7mn) of investments in solar projects in Croatia and internationally. Additionally, ENNA is also developing wind farms, geothermal projects, and battery storage systems.
In the geothermal sector, ENNA has two active geothermal power plant projects in Croatia, with capacities of 20 MW and 15 MW respectively, representing a total investment of EUR240mn ($257.2mn).
