Energiequelle GmbH has begun a repowering project at the Minden-Hahlen wind farm in North Rhine-Westphalia. Three Nordex N149 turbines, each 200 metres tall, will replace five outdated models, including two NEG Micon NM 60/1000 and three Enercon E-40 units. The aim is to ensure the operational reliability of the site while optimising its power generation.
A modernised system to reduce wear
The new turbines feature 149-metre rotors and advanced technology, enabling an expected annual output of 40,000 megawatt-hours. This marks an increase of around 600% compared to the previous setup. The replacement targets a reduction in recurring maintenance costs linked to older units, while stabilising long-term operations.
A project coordinated with local authorities
The initiative was developed in cooperation with the city of Minden and regulatory bodies. Approval was granted in December 2024 under the Federal Immission Control Act (Bundes-Immissionsschutzgesetz). This regulatory step ensures both technical and environmental compliance of the new infrastructure.
Commissioning expected by 2026
The installation and commissioning of the three turbines are scheduled for completion by October 2026. The site will continue to serve its original purpose, supplying electricity to approximately 9,500 standard households. The reduced number of machines will simplify maintenance needs and limit operational disruptions from mechanical failures.
