German developer Energiekontor AG has reached financial close for two wind projects in the Verden district of Lower Saxony, confirming the imminent start of construction. The Haberloh and Heidkrug projects will together provide a combined nominal capacity of about 94 megawatts (MW).

Eleven turbines for Haberloh and two for Heidkrug

The Haberloh wind farm will include eleven V162-7.2 turbines supplied by Danish manufacturer Vestas Wind Systems A/S, while Heidkrug will host two identical units. Each turbine has a rated output of 7.2 MW, with a hub height of 169 metres and a rotor diameter of 162 metres. Once fully operational, the projects are expected to generate an average annual output of 217 gigawatt hours (GWh).

The two adjacent sites are located between the existing Völkersen wind farm – already sold – and the Holtumer Moor project, currently under construction for Energiekontor’s own portfolio. Both projects are scheduled to be completed and commissioned in 2027.

A timeline aligned with national tenders

Construction permits were granted in August 2024, followed by the selection of both projects in May 2025 during the Federal Network Agency’s (Bundesnetzagentur) tender under the German Renewable Energy Act (Erneuerbare-Energien-Gesetz, EEG). This process secured long-term revenue streams through regulated feed-in tariffs.

The secured financing enables Energiekontor to strengthen its expanding portfolio. According to the company, nine projects totalling more than 250 MW have reached construction stage this year. This brings the total number of projects currently under construction to 17, with an overall capacity exceeding 540 MW.

A combination of in-house and turnkey projects

Among the projects underway, several – totalling more than 200 MW – are intended for Energiekontor’s own operating portfolio. Others, designed as turnkey sales, have already been sold to third parties in Germany. According to the company, these sold projects are expected to contribute to group earnings once commissioned.

Peter Szabo, Chief Executive Officer of Energiekontor AG, said the company is at a “historically high level” of construction and aims to expand further in the coming months through additional financial closes and ongoing sales negotiations.
