German manufacturer ENERCON, specialised in wind turbine production, is entering a reinforced phase of industrialisation at its Center of Excellence Mechatronics in Aurich. This initiative addresses the steady increase in orders and installation permits for onshore turbines, with a clear ambition to enhance production capacities for major components.

Public investment for industrial equipment

The ramp-up programme, which will mobilise up to €30 mn ($32.5 mn) for new production equipment, now benefits from direct funding by public authorities. ENERCON has received support of €3.7 mn ($4 mn) from the German federal government and the state of Lower Saxony to support investments at the Aurich plant, which serves as a pilot site for assembling nacelles and rotor hubs.

The official awarding of the grant took place during an institutional visit, marking the authorities’ commitment to local industrial development. According to ENERCON’s management, this contribution will accelerate the manufacturing of new turbine models, which are essential to meet the growing demand in the German wind energy sector.

Strengthening local industrial employment

Increasing production volumes is also expected to lead to the creation of additional jobs at the Aurich site. Up to 35 new positions may be created as part of the investment plan’s implementation. The company expects these recruitments to support the consolidation of its industrial base in northern Germany.

The Lower Saxony Minister for Economic Affairs highlighted, during the visit, the strategic role of ENERCON in the industrial sector and the regional economy. The activity observed at the Aurich site reflects the intensification of industrial investments linked to the energy transition and the growing demand for European-made equipment.

Project managers consider these measures necessary to secure long-term production activity in the region and to respond to the acceleration of the renewable energy market. ENERCON’s investment plan takes place in a context of strengthening national capacities for wind component production, which is regarded as a priority for industrial competitiveness.
