Enel Green Power is building one of the largest solar power plants in northern Italy. Once fully operational, it will be able to produce approximately 130 GWh per year. This will reduce CO2 emissions into the atmosphere by approximately 56,000 tons. The decrease in gas consumption will be 29 million cubic meters.

The photovoltaic plant is built on an area of about 130 hectares, next to the old power plant “Galileo Ferraris”. It will consist of nearly 160,000 modules, with a capacity of 86 MW. A 25 MW electrochemical energy storage system will also be installed. It will contribute to the smooth operation of the electrical system, also providing auxiliary services to the grid.

Eleonora Petrarca, head of business development in Italy for the Italian group, states:

“The start of construction of this photovoltaic system marks a new step in our strategy to grow renewable energy in Italy. This project, based on a constructive and positive dialogue with the local community, will allow Trino to once again be a key player in energy production with a sustainable and forward-looking approach, in line with national, European and global emission reduction and decarbonization goals.”

Enel Green Power, a local company

In addition to the photovoltaic system, the project includes other initiatives for the local area. They are possible thanks to the dialogue with the local community and always with a view to sustainability.

A project for the architectural and functional restoration of several buildings in the municipality is being developed next to the photovoltaic installation. The repair of a section of the historic road that connects two hamlets is also possible.

The mayor of Trino, Daniele Pane, comments:

“A strategic project for the region has finally seen the light of day. This is a remarkable achievement, especially in the current context of energy crisis. The start of construction comes despite all the red tape involved in the authorization process, which is unfortunately the norm in our country, but which we hope the Italian government can correct. Finally, thanks to the efforts of the Italian group and the heads of various organizations to reduce delays, we have laid the first stone. This project, along with the battery storage system, which will be installed in the area of the old “Galileo Ferraris” power plant, on which we will soon host a technical meeting, is a priority for our provincial government, as it will bring several benefits, such as funds for the redevelopment of the city of Leri.”
