EDP Renewables (EDPR), a key player in the field of renewable energies, in collaboration with Kronos Solar EDPR, has just reached a significant milestone in France. Indeed, their first solar project in the country, a 5MWp power plant, has just been commissioned. This development is particularly noteworthy as it represents EDPR’s first solar deployment in France, underlining its growing commitment to the French market.

Technological Innovation and Ecological Advancement

The photovoltaic park, with over 8,500 bifacial panels, is a major technological advance. These panels can capture solar radiation from both sides, maximizing energy production. The project, which began in early 2023, is now fully operational. Its annual production is estimated to be sufficient to supply around 1,200 homes, while avoiding the emission of more than 2,500 tonnes of CO2 each year – a further step towards a more sustainable future.

Impact of the project on the French market

The importance of this project is not limited to its production capacity. It represents a crucial element of EDPR’s strategic plan in France, illustrating the effective collaboration between EDPR and Kronos Solar in the development of solar projects. The park also illustrates France’s commitment to a greener energy mix, in line with national targets for the deployment of renewable energies.

EDPR and Kronos Solar: Pioneers in Renewable Energies

EDPR France, with 601MW in operation, including 213MW of its own, plays a leading role in the French energy landscape. This facility is the latest addition to a diversified portfolio that includes wind and photovoltaic projects managed both in-house and on behalf of third parties. The company is also developing offshore projects in partnership with Engie (Ocean Winds) and a floating wind project in Leucate.

In addition, EDPR has an impressive portfolio of solar projects, with around 9.4GWp at various stages of development in Europe. This expansion reflects EDPR’s ambition to support France’s goal of increasing its solar capacity sevenfold by 2035. The Neuilly-sur-Suize project is therefore an important milestone in this long-term strategy.

EDPR and Kronos Solar EDPR’s solar project represents a significant step forward in the development of renewable energy in France. Symbolizing a strong commitment to the country’s ecological objectives, this initiative marks a turning point in French energy strategy, paving the way for other ambitious projects and underlining the growing importance of renewable energies in the global energy mix.
