Portugal’s EDP Group launches a new edition of the A2E CSR Fund, offering 1 million euros to support energy projects in disadvantaged communities in Africa. The application phase for the 6th edition of the A2E CSR Fund runs until May 29. Interested organizations can apply for funding for clean energy access and energy inclusion projects. This year, the fund has a total budget of one million euros to finance projects in five African countries: Mozambique, Nigeria, Malawi, Kenya and Rwanda.

Impact of previous editions

Since its creation, the A2E Fund has financed 38 projects in seven African countries, directly and indirectly impacting nearly 3 million people. Vera Pinto Pereira, a member of EDP’s Board of Directors, emphasizes that this fund is a commitment to the communities that need it most. With the majority of the world’s population without access to electricity living in Africa, access to renewable energies is crucial for social, economic and environmental development.

Priorities and evaluation criteria

The A2E Fund targets five priority areas: education, health, water, community and business. Projects are assessed according to their social impact, partnership potential, sustainability, technical and financial viability, and capacity for expansion. Energy solutions can include installations supplying electricity to schools, irrigation systems for agriculture or refrigeration equipment for businesses.

Grant structure and timetable

Non-profit organizations can obtain up to 75% of total project funding, while for-profit entities are eligible for up to 50%. Funding ranges from €50,000 to €150,000 per project. After the application phase, projects go through an evaluation and pre-selection process. The winners will be announced in the last quarter of the year.

EDP’s A2E Fund continues to play a key role in promoting access to renewable energy in remote areas of Africa, bringing positive change to the lives of local communities and helping them to develop sustainably.
