EDP Renewables inaugurates its largest wind farm in Brazil

EDP Renewables has just inaugurated its largest wind farm complex in Brazil. This project, with an installed capacity of 580 MW, includes the Monte Verde I-VI, Boqueirão I-II and Jerusalém I-VI wind farms and will generate approximately 3,000 GWh/year.

EDP Renewables has inaugurated its largest wind farm complex in Brazil. This complex, with an installed capacity of 580 MW generated by 138 wind turbines, is located in the state of Rio Grande do Norte and consists of the Monte Verde I-VI, Boqueirão I-II and Jerusalém I-VI wind farms.

 

A major contribution to Brazil’s energy transition

With a production capacity of around 3,000 GWh/year, this wind farm complex will contribute to Brazil’s energy transition by increasing its renewable capacity in regions where EDP Renewables is already present. This installation will also avoid the emission of more than one million tons of CO2 per year.

“We will continue to support the acceleration of renewable energy in Brazil,” said Duarte Bello, EDPR’s Chief Operating Officer for Europe and Latin America.

 

A positive socio-economic impact for the region

The wind farm complex will also have a positive socio-economic impact on the region, with the creation of more than 3,000 jobs during construction and more than 80 permanent jobs related to the operation and maintenance of the farms. EDP Renewables has also developed a number of socially responsible projects in the region, impacting the lives of at least 700 local people, promoting training and qualification of local people and creating conditions to improve the local economy.

The inauguration of the complex was marked by the presence of several key figures, including Duarte Bello, Chief Operating Officer of EDPR for Europe and Latin America, Manuel Ortiz, Executive Director of EDPR in Latin America, Paula Dalbello, Director of EDP Renewables in Brazil, and Joao Marques da Silva, President of EDP Brasil. The wind complex will not only contribute to Brazil’s energy transition, but also to that of EDP’s customers in the region.
