Ebon Solar LLC, a US company specializing in the manufacture of solar cells, has chosen Albuquerque, New Mexico, as the location for its new production plant.
With a total investment of 942 million USD, this decision is part of a strategy to strengthen solar energy production capacity on American soil.
The site, planned to cover some 77,500 square meters, will be located in the Mesa del Sol industrial zone, a strategic location benefiting from abundant solar resources and local policies favorable to renewable energies.
This location represents a major challenge not only for Ebon Solar, which is seeking to diversify its production capacities and meet growing demand for renewable energy, but also for the local economy of New Mexico.
The creation of over 900 jobs, mainly in manufacturing and engineering, strengthens the region’s industrial fabric and supports the overall goal of the U.S. energy transition.

Context and regional support

The choice of New Mexico for this new plant was no accident.
The support of the local authorities, notably through the Albuquerque Regional Economic Alliance (AREA), was decisive.
AREA played a crucial role in evaluating the market and selecting the site, thus facilitating the company’s establishment.
This collaboration illustrates the shared determination of local players to transform the region into a hub for renewable energies.
The Albuquerque plant is also in line with the sustainability objectives of PNM, New Mexico’s main electric utility.
PNM, which is striving to reduce its carbon footprint, sees this project as an opportunity to accelerate the state’s energy transition by integrating more solar power into its energy mix.

Outlook for the energy sector

Ebon Solar intends to make this new plant a model of innovation in the renewable energy sector.
By focusing on advanced solar cell manufacturing technologies, the company aims not only to meet current demand, but also to anticipate future clean energy needs.
This massive investment is also a strong signal to other players in the sector, indicating that the United States, and New Mexico in particular, are propitious territories for industrial development linked to renewable energies.
Ebon Solar’s installation in Albuquerque marks a key step in the dynamic energy transition in the United States. By increasing its production capacity on American soil, Ebon Solar is helping to reduce dependence on imported solar technologies, while supporting the creation of skilled local jobs.
The Albuquerque plant’s increased production capacity could also have an impact on the global renewable energy market.
By increasing the supply of U.S.-made solar cells, Ebon Solar could influence prices and accelerate the adoption of solar energy, both domestically and internationally.
