e-STORAGE, a subsidiary of CSI Solar Co., Ltd., which is majority-owned by Canadian Solar Inc., has announced the commercial operation of its 220 MWh direct current energy storage project in Mannum, South Australia. The system was delivered as the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) provider for Epic Energy, the project owner, while development was led by Recurrent Energy, another Canadian Solar subsidiary.
This project reinforces e-STORAGE’s presence in the stationary storage market in Australia, one of the most active in the Asia-Pacific region. The company partnered with Consolidated Power Projects (CPP), acting as balance of plant contractor, to provide local technical execution for a project requiring advanced integration.
An integrated project alongside existing solar infrastructure
The system uses e-STORAGE’s proprietary SolBank technology, designed to ensure stable and secure high-performance operation. It is located on the same site as a 46 MWp solar plant owned by Epic Energy, allowing direct synergy between local power generation and storage.
Under a multi-year agreement, e-STORAGE will remain involved in the operational management of the asset to maintain performance continuity. This integrated model is part of the company’s strategy to deploy complete energy systems with long-term technical supervision.
Capacity expansion across the Australian market
The Mannum project is one of the latest additions to a growing project pipeline. e-STORAGE currently oversees more than 1.8 GWh of battery energy storage systems under construction in Australia, reinforcing its footprint in a market undergoing rapid development.
The project’s completion reflects the progress of large-scale installations in South Australia, a state facing grid stability challenges linked to increasing penetration of variable energy sources.
