Coral-Sul was inaugurated under the authority of the President of Mozambique, Filipe Jacinto Nyusi.

An official inauguration

The inauguration of Coral-Sul was also attended by the Minister of Mineral Resources and Energy, Carlos Zacarias. In addition, other representatives of the Mozambican government were present. They were accompanied by a delegation from Eni, headed by Guido Brusco, head of natural resources exploitation.

The event was held after the shipment of the first LNG cargo from Coral Sul FLNG. Coral-Sul is a floating liquefied natural gas unit installed off the coast of Mozambique, south of Area 4 of the Rovumal Basin. This is a flagship project for the gas industry, putting Mozambique on the global LNG stage.

Coral Sul could represent an important contribution to the security and diversification of Europe’s supplies. Eni discovered natural gas resources in zone 4 of the Rovuma basin. The company estimates that the site contains 2400 billion cubic meters of gas.

An expanded collaboration

At the ceremony, the President of Mozambique and Eni representatives discussed the development of other FLNG projects. In addition, they discussed the status of Eni’s initiatives towards carbon neutrality. Thus, Mozambique and Eni could collaborate on agricultural commodity projects.

A project aims to produce oil from seeds, waste and residues. In addition, it would not compete with food crops and agricultural land. Indeed, this production is used in the production of biofuels.

Eni has been present in Mozambique since 2006. The company is the delegated operator of the Coral South project on behalf of the Zone 4 partners. The company discovered natural gas resources at the Coral, Mamba Complex and Agulha reservoirs.
