CNOOC launches production at Weizhou 11-4 oilfield in South China Sea

CNOOC Limited has commenced production at the Weizhou 11-4 oilfield adjustment project, which includes several satellite fields located in the Beibu Gulf Basin of the South China Sea. The project, situated at an average water depth of 43 metres, is fully operated by the company, which holds a 100% interest.

A connected offshore platform network in the South China Sea

The development includes a newly constructed unmanned wellhead platform and a central processing platform. These facilities are connected via a bridge to an existing platform, enabling operational centralisation and infrastructure cost reduction. A total of 35 wells are planned, including 28 production wells and 7 water injection wells.

The oilfield aims to reach a peak production of 16,900 barrels of oil equivalent per day by 2026. The crude oil extracted is light, valued in global markets for its low sulphur content and high refining yield.

An integrated energy logistics hub in Beibu Gulf

The project is part of a coordinated development plan based on three offshore processing centres and one onshore terminal. This configuration enables more efficient crude collection, treatment and transportation, while strengthening energy supply security in the region.

The area already benefits from existing infrastructure, which has supported the rapid deployment of the new field. This deployment model allows CNOOC Limited to shorten operational timelines and optimise resource exploitation in the southern part of the country.
