Clyde Extension, an onshore wind farm in Scotland, is under contract extension for maintenance by Siemens Gamesa.

Extension of the contract

Clyde Extension is located in South Lanarkshire, Scotland and has a capacity of 172.8MW. Clyde Wind Farm (Scotland) Ltd selects Siemens Gamesa to oversee all maintenance. Thus, Siemens Gamesa will provide maintenance and upkeep until 2037.

Clyde Extension consists of 54 Siemens Gamesa 3.2MW wind turbines. The wind farm has been operational since 2017. It includes the Clyde and Clyde Extension wind farms with a total of 206 turbines.

Training opportunities

The new contract guarantees the jobs of the existing maintenance team. In addition, it will provide opportunities for increased training placements for the next 15 years. Paulina Hobbs, CEO of Services for the Northern Europe and Middle East region at Siemens Gamesa, says:

“We are delighted that SSE Renewables has chosen our team to continue at Clyde Extension and allow us to continue our excellent work. Our involvement with the wind farm allows us to work closely with Clyde Wind Farm (Scotland) Ltd to ensure that Clyde Extension reaches its full potential, while also allowing us to create more training and career opportunities for people looking to join this great industry.”

Stuart Hood, director of Clyde Wind Farm (Scotland) Ltd, says:

“It’s fantastic to be able to continue this partnership with Siemens Gamesa at Clyde Wind Farm Extension for another 15 years. Since the wind farm was commissioned in 2017, Siemens Gamesa has provided an excellent service when maintaining the 3.2MW turbines. At Clyde Wind Farm, we are always keen to support those looking to start their career in the renewable energy sector, so we are delighted to hear about the opportunities the new contract will create for apprenticeships and training courses in the years ahead.”
