Oil and gas group Cepsa and energy company Endesa announced on Tuesday that they had signed an agreement to pool their electric vehicle charging network in Spain and Portugal by 2022.
Cepsa joins Endesa’s Spanish network
The “new ultra-fast charging network to be deployed by Cepsa (150 kW charging stations located on all freeways and main roads) will join the infrastructure of Endesa X (a subsidiary of Endesa), which to date has 75 ultra-fast charging stations in 25 locations throughout Spain”, the two Spanish companies said in a joint press release.
“This partnership is (…) an important step in the energy transition in Spain and Portugal,” says Cepsa CEO Philippe Boisseau.
Spain’s Energy Transition Act, passed in May 2021, calls for a ban on the sale of CO2-emitting passenger cars by 2040 and on their circulation by 2050.
The European Commission, which wants to go further, proposed in July 2021 to aim for a ban on the sale of petrol and diesel cars in 2035.
