Capstone Green Energy (CGRN) announces the supply of five microturbines to a Colorado natural gas producer. Horizon Power Systems will distribute and install the microturbines in a natural gas basin committed to the energy transition.
Autonomous technology
Capstone Green Energy, a green energy solutions specialist, will supply five microturbines to a natural gas development site in Colorado. Its distributor, Horizon Power Systems, will install the turbines in the largest natural gas basin in the United States. The operator thus hopes to develop the share of renewable energy on its site with this system operational by the end of 2022.
A high pressure gas produced on site will power the Capstone Green Energy system. It will provide the energy needed to operate an operationally based saltwater treatment facility. In addition, the dual mode microturbines will alternate between power and standby mode.
A project in line with Colorado’s climate goals
The selection of Capstone Green Energy for this project helps meet the site operator’s emissions reduction goal. Colorado is the first state to impose strict methane emission reductions on oil and gas producers. Thus, Horizon Power Systems President Sam Henry states:
“Capstone’s microturbines are easier to use and less expensive than traditional engines. The producer avoids spending oil, diesel or even parts and mobilizing employees each month for maintenance.”
The site operator opted for Capstone Green Energy’s microturbine technology to replace a diesel-powered reciprocating engine. In this way, the site operator avoids the emission of large quantities of greenhouse gases. In addition, the microturbines integrate with the high altitude site, subject to severe weather conditions.
